Georgia

Georgia, the lone survivor of a small feral litter, has no eyesight but she is the sweetest, most joyously playful of all the kittens who have come to stay with us at our Center. Georgia is a confident kitten in spite of her blindness and she loves to be with people and receive their hugs and caresses. 

Because of Covid-19 it has been difficult to send Georgia to her new home in Holland but the family has been patient and now, after almost seven months, Georgia is a Dutch citizen and is enjoying the love of her new family. 

We want to thank the Mirtos Animal Project and their amazing team for their help in finding a new home for Georgia. Ruben and Lennie were kind enough to escort her to her new home in Holland, and our great great thanks go to Marein and her family who have opened their arms to this beautiful and sweet girl. 

We wish Georgia a long and happy new life in Holland.

Feevos

Feevos, a pup that had been locked in a darkened warehouse for over a year, was finally given the legal right, by order of the Prosecutor of the Court of First Instance of Naxos, to be rescued by Animal Zone International.

After nearly six months with us at our Center, Feevos has finally found his forever home in Holland. He will be given the love that he was denied in his first year and this sweet young dog will be able to give back the love that so clearly fills his special heart.

We want to thank Mirtos Animal Project and their team for all their help in finding a home for Feevos. Ruben and Lennie escorted Feevos to Karin and his new family who so lovingly opened their hearts to this handsome boy. We wish a long and happy and wonderful new life to our dear Feevos!!

Achilleas found his forever home

Achilleas, our beloved equine, traveled from Amorgos to Athens on the 17th of December. The next day he went from Athens to Thessaloniki and specifically to the equestrian Center of Macedonia. Giannis Brastianos, our farrier and his family, have offered Achilleas the safety and warmth of a loving home. 

Besides Giannis and his family, who have always supported our organization, we want also to thank Beatrice Rock who first rescued Achilleas and was taking care of him during the months that she was in Amorgos, and, who supported us financially in order to be able to take care him once she returned home. We want to thank also Lea Voegeli for her help in Achilleas transportation since her help and advice are always precious for us here on the island.

Let us say a few words about how and why Achilleas ended up in the shelter of Animal Zone International. Animals are not toys to be enjoyed and discarded once we become bored with them. We want to beg anyone who is thinking of taking a large animal as a pet to seriously think about the care that must be taken for a lifetime, and, for a horse that can be up to 35 years. Achilleas was rescued from a sad and unhappy environment by a wonderful Italian woman who spends a few months on our island and who, when it was time for her to return home, helped fund the care for Achilleas in our center. The cost is great, both in money and in time, and, we hope that everyone will approach the care for their animals, whether large or small, with care and love.

Petra and Pinelopi

It's been two years since Petra and Pinelopi were adopted! Back then they were two small kittens; now they have become gorgeous, healthy cats.

Petra and Pinelopi were adopted as a pair by the owner of an orchard near to our Center. Together they enjoy freedom and being out in nature and live well in the big orchard they call home.

Bobbie's new life

Do you remember sweet Bobbie? 

Bobbie was found abandoned as a puppy  and spent the next 2 and a half years waiting for his forever home. On March 23rd Bobbie and his brother Arangon traveled from Amorgos, where their lives had no future, to Holland, to start a life as a member of a family, inside a home.

We've heard nothing but good news about his new life, and here is the proof...!

Tortuel

Some weeks ago, a young French couple vacationing in Amorgos came across a tiny blind kitten on the streets of Tholaria. They brought the kitten to our Center in Katapola and visited the kitten during the last two days of their stay. Saying goodby to this small being that they had rescued was difficult and they decided to adopt her and bring her to their home in Paris once she had recovered from her difficult time living alone on the streets.

This magnificent couple has traveled from Paris to Mykonos and now to Naxos where they received tiny Tortuel from our veterinarian. She is now living happily in Paris with her loving and wonderful new family. We are profoundly grateful for the kindness and generosity of those who help us in our ongoing work to make the animal kingdom of these islands a safe and healthy one.

Ermis and Dias

Last May, two kittens were found left alone in a chicken coop and brought to our Center where they received health-restoring treatments. The Filozoiki's secretary Anna Maria brought the kittens home to live with her and her daughter Melina.

Melina fell madly in love with the kittens and named them Ermis and Dias. She sleeps with them, cares for them, and even sews clothes for them. What a thrill to know that Ermis and Dias have found love and joy in a safe and caring home.

We wish them all a long and happy life together. And a Happy Valentine's Day to all!

New Beginnings for Lily

Until recently, it was not common practice for families of Amorgos to adopt animals from local welfare associations, but, in the last few months we have been thrilled to find that four of our animals from the Center have found loving homes.

Today, a small kitten only four months old has been adopted by a local couple who had lost their own cat, Melenia. Mr. Kostas Sigalas came to us hoping to adopt a kitten as a gift for his wife, Despoina, who was grieving over the loss of her beloved cat. Mr. Siglas chose little Lily, who, amazingly, looks much like their own Melenia.

Today, with tears in her eyes, Mrs. Despoina welcomed little Lily into her home and, because she spends many hours alone, Lily will be great company for this kind lady. A loving relationship has begun and we wish many many long years of happiness together for the Despoinas and their new family member.

Zizi

In May of 2017, little Zizi was abandoned, together with her brothers, outside of the primary school of Potamos in Aegiali.

After a difficult struggle her small brothers were not able to survive but little Zizi showed a gift for life that helped her to grow strong in her time at our Center. Now, Zizi has been adopted by a local family in Langada, Aeliali where she shares the love and care of a family with two young boys who clearly adore her.

We are thankful for another happy ending for another young member of the animal kingdom.
 

Fluffy's Good News!

Dear friends,

Fluffy, our beautiful and truly special blind cat, after staying at our Center for two years and despite being positive in FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency virus), has finally found her own home in Holland!

Mirtos Animal Project, an organization in Holland with which we cooperate, has found a new home where Fluffy will live with 2 dogs. (Her medical condition prevents her from going to a home with healthy cats.) 

Mirtos also found a flight escort for her which is great news. Animal Zone is responsible for paying for her transportation from Amorgos to the airport in Athens (boat and metro tickets), passport fees and health check up (microchipping and flea and tick prevention medicine) and carrying case. All of this will cost approximately 200 euro.

Little Voulitsa

Little Voulitsa was living with her mother, Voula, and her three siblings in an area where there had been serious outbreaks of disease and infection. Her mother Voula was released back into her home area after having been spayed but we felt that we could not allow Voulitsa to return with her mother since the area is extremely dangerous for young kittens.

Voulitsa is now six months old and she remains at our Center but she is available for adoption. If a home cannot be found for her, in spring when the weather is warmer, then Voulitsa will have to go back to her area.

We ask you to open your heart and home for Voulitsa. The life of a stray is a very hard life. Voulitsa needs a true home. She is now a healthy and active and playful kitten who loves to be hugged. What a gem!

Negra Update

We have good news through an update on Negra, the all white pup who was adopted by a family in Holland one year ago.

Negra has gone through training and she now has a job visiting the mentally handicapped. She has learned how to help them relax and even to help out with small chores, like getting the laundry. 

Her family is very proud of this amazing dog.

Christos Adopted

In October little Christos was adopted by a family in Holland, who had previously rescued a stray dog from Athens. They are clearly enjoying each other's company!

Charlie (Koutcho) says Hello from Holland

Koutcho, now Charlie, was adopted in Holland in 2009, when he was about six years old. He is now a senior dog at 12 year old, but still very handsome (see photo of Charlie with his tie on). We're so happy to get an update from you, Charlie!

Raki was brought to Holland to be adopted by a loving family in October 2014. She is doing very well and is a happy dog who loves the sun and her ball!

Update on Heracles

After being adopted in December 2014, Heracles, now Raklee, is happy and healthy and enjoying a wonderful life in Holland. And, as you can see, he is still as handsome as ever!

Update on Caline

Here are some new photos of Caline, a blind kitten who now lives in Paris. She is loved in her new home and apparently everybody knows her in the neighborhood!
