Seven whole years had to pass, six of them spent navigating the streets, before a warm home and a loving family finally found this special creature. Celine’s story is one of patience, resilience, and an incredible international effort to bring her to safety.
A Difficult Start
Celine’s journey with Animal Zone International began on August 31, 2018. She arrived at our Center as a tiny, two-month-old kitten in dire condition. Thanks to parasite treatment and high-quality nutrition, she transformed into a beautiful, shiny, and playful cat.
For eight months, we hoped someone would see the magic in her and offer her a home. However, no adoption interest came, and Celine eventually had to be released into a safe neighborhood where local residents and volunteers looked after her.
Years on the Street
Life followed a peaceful rhythm for years. Celine enjoyed endless hours basking in the Aegean sun, cared for by a community that loved her. But as time passed, the very sun she loved began to pose a threat. Celine developed a severe sensitivity to sunlight and recurring eye infections.
The need for an indoor home became more urgent than ever. Yet, once again, the months slipped by with no inquiries. We were beginning to lose hope when a message arrived from Sophie in Paris: "I’d like to adopt Celine. We’ve lost our lovely kitty of 18 years, and I am ready to welcome another cat to love."
The Human Chain
Finally, Celine had a chance! After a successful trial period at the Center to ensure she could adapt to indoor life after six years on the streets, the logistics of her relocation began. What followed was a magnificent "human chain" of kindness:
Sophia escorted Celine on a 10-hour boat trip from Amorgos to Piraeus.
Pepi met them at the port, hosted Celine for the night, and brought her to the Athens airport the next morning.
Maud, a kind-hearted traveler, flew with Celine from Athens to Bordeaux.
A volunteer from the association Les Anges du Rail then escorted Celine on a train from Bordeaux to Paris, where her new family was waiting with open arms.
Finally Home
After 9 months in a shelter, 6 years on the streets, and a 2-day journey involving boats, planes, and trains, Celine is finally home. She has traded the dusty streets for the protection and love she deserves in Paris.
We wish you a wonderful, long, and happy life with your new family, sweet Celine!
