Amorgos Makes History: Announcing Our Island’s First-Ever Animal Welfare Education Curriculum

This spring, Amorgos hosted its first-ever presentation of digital and printed animal welfare education materials for kindergarten and primary school teachers — a milestone effort led by the Ministry of the Interior’s Special Secretariat for the Protection of Companion Animals.

The new materials include a dedicated folder for kindergarten educators and a comprehensive guidebook for primary school students. To kick off the launch, the curriculum creators — Katerina Papapostolou, Liana Denezaki, and Erika Athanasiou — led a seminar titled “Animal Welfare through Practical Applications.”

To make resources even more accessible, organizers handed out NFC keychains that link directly to pet.gov.gr, offering tools and information for animal lovers and educators alike.

Alongside this rollout, Amorgos hosted training sessions for municipal employees, police officers, and animal welfare groups on the new National Pet Registry. Our friends at the Zero Stray Project team led additional seminars on stray and shelter management.

First Athens — now Amorgos. Let’s keep the momentum going, throughout all of Greece!
