At Animal Zone International (AZI), every animal has a story and today, we are honored to share Lemonia’s.
A Difficult Past
Lemonia is not yet 20 years old, yet her life has already been marked by hardship. In Amorgos alone, she has had three different owners. Although she is still strong enough to work, she is afraid of the saddle and reacts nervously when anything is placed on her back. Her fear made her difficult to handle, and her last owner no longer wanted to keep her.
Bound Legs and a Crucial Rescue
Back in 2022, Lemonia lived in a field with her front legs tied together. Her owner was afraid to remove the ropes, fearing he wouldn’t be able to control her. Fortunately, the equine care team of Animal Action stepped in to help. They treated her teeth and hooves, and after their guidance, the owner finally agreed to cut the ropes. For the first time, Lemonia could walk free.
A New Beginning at AZI
Today, Lemonia has joined the AZI shelter, where her past hardships will no longer define her future. She will never again be forced to carry heavy loads or wear a saddle. Instead, she can enjoy safety, freedom, and care in a loving environment.
Welcome Home, Lemonia
Stories like Lemonia’s remind us why our mission matters. Every rescue is a step toward a kinder future for animals in Amorgos.
