Meet Pocopico

Meet Pocopico. When he first came to us — an entire week after taking a hit from a car — his jaw was broken. He couldn’t see or walk straight. A preexisting respiratory disease made the situation all the more urgent.

We rushed him to the nearby island of Naxos for intensive care. We knew we had a fighter on our hands, and we never give up hope.

But Pocopico’s prognosis was not good.

Our veterinarian partners in Naxos were able to partially realign his jaw. They treated the head injuries causing his blindness and unsteadiness. Still, so much time had passed since the accident — we couldn’t be certain that the treatments would help.

On Pocopico’s fourth day in Naxos, though, he started eating on his own. Then, his vision came back. His wobble started to fade, and, once he was healthy enough to roam about his hospital room, he strutted steadily, his confidence and curiosity restored.

Now that he’s back on Amorgos with us, we’ve gotten to know the true Pocopico: talkative, affectionate, and goofy in the greatest way. We can count on him to be wherever the action is. We miss him every day, but we’re so thrilled he’s found a loving home of his own.

If Pocopico’s story inspires you like it does us, please help us offset the costs of Pocopico’s treatment and adoption. We rely on the generosity of donors to maintain our high standard of responsive emergency care for animals in dire need on the island of Amorgos.
