Finding Peace Beyond Fear
Lemonia is not yet 20 years old, but her life has already been marked by more hardship than most animals face in a lifetime. In Amorgos alone, she was passed between three different owners, never finding a place to truly call home.
Though she is strong and healthy, Lemonia carries the invisible scars of her past. She is deeply afraid of the saddle and reacts with nervous fear whenever anything is placed on her back. Because she was "difficult to handle," her last owner no longer wanted her. But Lemonia wasn't difficult, she was simply terrified.
The First Step to Freedom
Her story reached a breaking point in 2022. At that time, Lemonia lived in a field with her front legs tied together. Her owner was so afraid of her nervous reactions that he refused to remove the ropes, fearing he wouldn't be able to control her.
Fortunately, the equine care team from Animal Action stepped in. They provided essential care for her teeth and hooves and, through their patient guidance, finally convinced the owner to cut the ropes. For the first time in years, Lemonia could walk without chains.
A Future Without Burdens
Today, Lemonia has joined the AZI shelter, where her past hardships will no longer define her future. Here, the cycle of fear ends.
She will never again be forced to carry heavy loads or wear a saddle that scares her. Instead, she can finally relax into a life of safety and freedom. In our care, Lemonia is learning that human hands can offer kindness instead of restraint. She is finally free to be herself, in a loving environment where she is cherished just as she is.
