Mission Accomplished: 205 Lives Changed in Our Latest Sterilization Marathon

On Saturday, we officially concluded our massive two-week sterilization program across Amorgos. It has been a whirlwind of activity, long hours, and profound dedication from our vets and volunteers, but the results speak for themselves.

The Numbers of Change

Our goal was to reach as many stray cats as possible to ensure a healthier, more sustainable future for the island’s colonies. Here is the final breakdown:

  • Katapola: 101 cats (59 females, 42 males)

  • Aegiali: 104 cats (59 females, 45 males)

  • Total for the program: 205 stray cats (118 females, 87 males)

Beyond Sterilization: Vital Medical Care

These programs are about more than just population control; they are often the only time these stray cats receive a thorough veterinary check-up.

During the clinic, we encountered two heartbreaking cases of ear cancer, a common and painful condition for cats in the Mediterranean sun.

  • Sadly, one cat was found to be in the late stages of cancer. To prevent further suffering, we made the difficult but humane decision to euthanize her.

  • Another cat was diagnosed with the beginning stages of cancer. Our surgeons successfully performed a double ear ablation to remove the affected tissue. This brave soul is currently recovering at our Center under close supervision.

A Community Effort

We are exhausted but deeply moved by the support of the Amorgos community and our international donors. Every cat sterilized represents hundreds of fewer kittens born into a life of struggle on the streets.
